Whats going to happen if STO gets a million+ subscribers?
 
I mean if we are all on one server, i cant imagine having 400,000 starships flying around in space. I guess thats what the que is for....but then i cant imagine being number 400,000 in line waiting to play. Guess im never going to log off then.

It won't have them. Not if the game runs like this.

People, the game has been RELEASED. They are just letting pre-paid people in before the general retail release.

Tuesday is going to be a cataclysm.

It wont..

I'd be surprised if STO ever exceeds 100K ACTUAL subscribers... there really isn't a lot of content in this game, and I suspect most people will be done with it after a month of playing..

I mean, 2 days and I'm 26% through to level cap.. I'll be admiral within a week, and I'm NOT skipping content and I have no desire to PvP for all eternity.

The entire game is instanced. It can handle as many people as they add hardware to support because there's never going to be more than 50 people per instance, unless they raise the cap. If they keep adding nodes, it could effectively hold as many as it needs to. The question it, do they have the money/income to pay for the new hardware. Right now, hell no. In 2 months, probably not. TBH, I'd wager we'll see long lines to get in, and frequent down times for the first 6 months or so. Get used to it.

They won't get to a million at this rate. If it weren't tax refund time, they probably wouldn't have what they have now. I just wonder how so many people can afford to throw three hundred bucks down the drain for a lifetime sub for this...

No, you're absolutely correct.

Open Beta was supposed to shake down connectivity and load issues such as what we're seeing now. Head Start is their release candidate...

Aside from server stability, that's what I'm afraid of for this game the most. Hopefully they'll be updating frequently and bring a more epic end game to us outside of the normal 5 man team.

Well, some of us DO have employment and lives outside of STO. I'm sure that will extend it to an extent. But no, STO won't reach a million subscribers if they can't resolve some of these issues. Of course, I have confidence that they WILL be resolved, it's just a matter of when. Unfortunately, if they don't get on the ball before too long the Word of Mouth will spread and reflect quite poorly on the product.

That is why you should not even set a release date until you are at least at "release candidate" stage.

Release should have been pushed back by at least a month after the open beta debacle.

Closed beta ran much better, but there were far fewer people. Clearly neither their code nor their server scale as they had designed it to.
