Shared Cooldown

So I got a new Tac officer with HYTII... my original has HYTI and activating one of these skills puts a CD on the other... I was expecting this but was just wondering what "other" skills also share cooldowns... is it because its a torp skill or just an HYT skill... what Im really after is what the rules are for triggering cooldowns on other skills... can I pick up Spread for instance without the CD, or maybe it will have to be Overload/Rapid Fire (and anyway will the CD greatly affect DPS)?

From what I have seen if you use a skill like HYT it will place a cooldown on all other torpedo skills the exact same length as the cooldown on the weapon itself, not the cooldown of the skill. So you can use both HYT and Spread, but you'll have to wait for the weapon to be ready to fire the second skill off.

The only exception to this would be if you use a skill that you have multiple ranks of, like HYTI and HYTII you can't use both, so always drop the lower rank...

Annoying thing is it makes having 3 tiers of certain skills pointless because once levelled up the cooldowns match the shared cooldown period (or are very close to it)

Yep, unfortunately we dont have enough variance in our skills to slot into the spaces taken up by lower level versions of the same skill.
