Brief List Of MMO Abbreviations ***Sticky Please***
 
Ok someone was asking for some game abbreviations. I put together a couple of pages I know of and then some that I have used or heard of over time. This is a pretty good sized list but feel free to add more. If you could sticky this it would be great for other people to be able to use it.


AFAIK - As far as I know
AFK - Away from keyboard
Aggro/agro - Short from aggression, became an official term in many current games. Indicates monster aggression/targeting towards a player.
ALT - Alternate characters or toons
AOE - Area Of Effect
ASAP - As soon as possible
ATM - At the moment
Bio - Short for "biological," this refers to fulfilling biological needs (i.e. using the restroom); often used to explain AFKs in groups
BOE - Bind On Equip
BOP - Bind On Pickup/ non tradeable
BOT - Discouraged and usually against TOS. Someone sets up a macro or way to exploit the game for their own benefit.
Bound - Bound to your character/non tradable
BRB - Be Right Back
BRT - Be right there
BTW - By the way
Buff - Temporary boost to your toons stats
CBA - Can't be arsed
CC - Crowd control/To be able to root/stun/ or any other way of temporarily disabling a NPC or player toon
Crit - To critically hit/Very large damage given/ example 200 reg damage if you crit it may be 1200 damage
DIAF - Die in a fire
Debuff - The opposite of buffing. To take off a buff of a toon or npc
DoT - Damage over time skill. One that does damage say every 5 secs or 10 secs but usually smaller than a regular hit. But the same over the amount of time specified.
DPS - Damage Per Second-Usually takes the amount of damage and speed of the weapon and comes up with a number per second which would be the damage.
Epic - This is the elite gear. This is found in instances usually or reputation turn ins.
Experience - What you need to level.
Farming - This is a way to get in game currency. Say you find a spot where you can kill ships over and over to loot them then you sell. That is farming.
FFS - For f---'s sake
FTL - For the loss ("smth. FTL" means "smth. is bad")
FTW - For the win ("smth. FTW" means "smth. is good")
FYI - For your information
GG/GJ - Good game/Good job
GLF - Group looking for
GTFO - Get the f--- out
GTG/G2G - Got to go
HP - Hit points/Health points
IC - In character
IDC - I don't care
IDD - I don't disagree
IDK - I don't know
IIRC - If I recall correctly
IMHO - In my humble opinion
IMO - In my opinion
Inc - Incoming
Instance - This is usually dungeons or space encounters away from the regular population. Usually done in teams or fleets.
IRL - In real life
JK - Joke/Just kidding
K/KK - OK
KIT - Keep in touch
Kite - Usually to be able to stay in front of the opponent without taking to much damage but killing your opponent usually done on higher level mobs than yourself.
KoS - Kill On Sight
KS - Kill steal, killing a foe that was being defeated by another player
LF - Looking for ("LF tank," etc.)
LF1M/LF2M/etc. - Looking for one more, two more, etc.
LFG - Looking for group
LFM - Looking for more (for a group)
LFT - Looking for team
LFP - Looking for players (group looking for players)
LMAO - Laughing My *** Off
LOL - Laughing Out Loud
Loot - What drops off of your targets.
LoS - Line of sight/Very important that your within line of sight to heal or hit your target. Also good to get out of line of sight to get your shields back or heal up.
MMORPG - Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game
Mob - An AI controlled ship or klingon
MP(SP) - Mana points/Magic points/Spell points
MT - Mistell (means "I sent this message to the wrong channel or person")
Ninja - This is someone who sets out to break the rules of the group to loot for their own benefit. This can ruin a reputation in a game and usually a standard No-No
Noob - New Player
NP - No problem
NPC - Non Player Character
Nuke - Usually the highest damage dealer
NVM/NM - Nevermind
Ofc - Of course
OIC - Oh I see
OMW/OTW - On my way/On the way
OOC - Out of character
ORLY? - Oh really?
Pat - Short for patrol. Good to shout out if lead does not see an incoming mob.
PB - Point Blank
PC - Player Character
PK - Player kill or player killer
PL - Power level. To level as quickly as possible with outside assistaince.
Port - Short for teleporting
Proc - Benefits of damage of a random occurance
PuG - Pick up group
Pull - Usually the tank or ranged toons pull mobs to the group.
PVE - Player Versus Enviroment
PVP - Player Versus Player
Pwnz - same as own/used in pvp alot
QQ - Pair of tears QQ more noob
Race - Player or non player races in the game
Raid - Usually a seperate instance that is substantial with loot and higher level mobs
Regen - Regeneration like regen your shields to get the power back
Respec - Usually a way to rearrange your skills at some sort of cost but is good to try out different skills
Rez - Resurrection
ROFL - Rolling On The Floor Laughing
Root - Immobilizing a target
Solo - Playing alone
Soulbound - Something bound to your toon or account. Usually you have a couple of methods on advanced loot BoE or BoP explained above
STFU - Shut the f--- up
Spawn - Usually a mob that comes on a timer.
Spec - It refers to your specification or build of your toon. Usually a setup of skills is your Spec. There are some cookie cutter specs you can search for on search engines or do your own.
TBH - To be honest
Tick - Each time a DoT does damage it is called a Tick.
Toon - In game character
TP - Teleport
TTYL - Talk to you later
TY - Thank you
TYT - Take your time
Uber - Meaning great or super
Vent - Ventrillo - Correctly spelled as Ventrilo, it is a Voice over IP (VoIP) online chat service.
WB - Welcome Back
WC - Wrong channel
Wipe - Usually in an instance the group takes on to much and everyone dies that is a wipe
WOOT - Hooray or yay
WTB - want to buy
WTG - Way to go
WTF - What the f---
WTH - What the hell
WTS - Want to sell
WTT - Want to trade
XP (Exp) - Experience Points
YW - You are welcome


Tank -This is the Engineering players in game
DPS -This is the Tactic players in game
Healer-This is the Science players in game

Good list for new mmo players. Us oldies forget sometimes that others dont talk abbrev. :p

To nit pick though id point out generally;

Noob - Someone who is acting in a stupid manner or being an @ss and/or doesnt have a clue
Newbie - new player not to be confused with noob
Nub - see noob
