I woman does not have to take her husbands name and in fact a family with a famous descendant might keep the name on in a double barreled format then later generations migh choose to drop the non-famous part of the name.

Its quite possible therefor as is.

I just remembered that a man can choose to take on his wifes family name upon marriage... this has been known to happen in the case of famous and powerful families, or even to meet inheritance requirements. Its not unknown of.
