as for the whole canon and non canon deal. cryptic storm posted this in one of the forums:searching the forums on sto i discovered a comment from a cryptic mod
Now, if you're interested in STO novels, look for the "Needs of the Many" by Michael A. Martin early next year

it was the final statement in regards to the canon issue of the borg. seems according to this that cryptic will have their own novels about star trek opposed to canons version.

We consider the movies and the series to be hard canon. They happened, that's the way it is, and we follow them.

Books, comics, etc. are soft canon. We go through them, but we choose what we want to add into our game.

Mostly, it's based on (a) is it cool, (b) does it make for a good game, and (c) does it fit our story. The Destiny trilogy, for example, didn't fit -- we knew we wanted Borg, we had already done work on the Borg, and ripping them out wasn't going to happen. So if there is a point where our game diverges from the novels, that's it.

In addition, STO is set in 2409. The novels are somewhere in the early 2380s atm. We knew all along that we were going to quickly move past the soft canon timeline, and that we had to be prepared to create our own story. I think we've done pretty well.

Now, if you're interested in STO novels, look for the "Needs of the Many" by Michael A. Martin early next year.
