Atari is also in fairly dire straights. They've been losing IPs left and right, and the power IPs they do hold they haven't done much with. They've dropped the ball on the DnD license, their last Terminator game failed miserably, and thanks to the recent recession, they're forced to liquidate a lot of potential assets. They're also losing A LOT of business to a few of the bigger publishing houses like EA and Activision, not to mention Vivendi has been eating Atari alive in every market imaginable.

Unfortunately, that means Atari literally has to rush new products on to the market as fast as they can before the fiscal year ends or risk necessitating a huge downsizing/layoff spree. Hence, the current state of STO.

I wouldn't want to be in Atari's shoes either.

It's just not a very good time to be a development house under Atari/Infogrames.
