And most of that was then dressed by very talented costumers so that it at once looked in place in the 23rd or 24th century and yet didn't cost a lot of money or time to create. That's the essence of costuming -- taking mundane materials and building something out of them that neither looks out of place nor distracts from the performances.

Like I said above -- take the ties off of these, maybe tweak the collars a touch, add a band down the front or something, and they'll look entirely like 25th century formal wear. As they stand, they look... well, somewhat old fashioned even by 21st century standards.
