Are there any distant plans to allow players to create, heavily modify or design and build new classes of star ships?
To go into more detail. Would you consider expanding on the current and known future crafting systems to include a research talent system which allows star ship design research, Technology specialization, specific subsystem modification.
For example: A two or three tier talent system that allows players to specialize at making ships of a specific size or type (Using preset bridge officer stations and passive stats determined by the size and type of ship the player wishes to build).
Players would be able to convert samples into research points which can be used to specialize in specific fields of research.
Tier 1 talents determine the size of ships you can build. (Say you play a science captain and want to make a science cruiser. You would use this talent to allow the construction of a larger science ship)
Tier 2 talents would be subsystem modifications or improvements. (Special passive bonuses and improvements to your ships performance)
Tier 3 talents could branch into unique technological improvements that make physical changes to your ships appearance. Players could research heavy weapons and add a Phaser Lance or Heavy Cannon emplacements.
Specialized scientific research in fields like Tachyon particles and build or modify ships to feature powerful sensors in the form of a pod Featured on many science ships already) or Pylon and pod as seen on the nebula class)
Or develop powerful hull armor, powerful impulse and warp drive systems.
And possibly allow a branching of research enabling players to create new weapons with preset (And balanced) special weapons for their ships. Like my personal favorite but very overpower idea, the tachyon lance.
I realize I frame my question in the forum of a suggestion but would you consider such a concept in some form or fashion at some future point?
