Weapon scale and quantity (like the dual beams from the retro phasers) is controlled by the component, not the ship it is mounted on.

That having been said...

I think these should be defined by ship. This would allow Cryptic some more flexibility in the visual representation of weapons fire for older ships (like the Constitution Refit) as well as letting it stay consistent to ship size (so you don't have huge beams coming out of tiny ships).

I don't know if Cryptic has the time or resources for such a comparatively small change, however.
