True, it would be an interesting system to bring more ship variations into the game, but it wouldn't satisfy the people who want new T5 refits like the Rhode Island Nova or the Akira. Or the Constitution.

*g* I was always a fan of All Good Things, but there's no way to buy the uniform. not even blueprints. I didn't like the movie uniform and it would have been way too expensive in any half-way decent quality, so I settled for TNG with the All Good Things communicator. Should anybody ever get the idea to tell me that my outfit is non-canon I will just claim to be from a parallel universe.

I thought it would've been cool that for every ship destroyed, a certain number of salvage points would be rewarded and they could be used to buy addons to ships and there would be limits.

People won't go for it, because it is another "currency"
Salvage points could be the same as EC, that would even give us a decent credit sink.
