Just happened to see this post and wanted to quickly share some thoughts. I need to replay the Miral Paris mission to give you any specifics (I have a new character that will be doing that soon), but here are two general ideas.

I almost always keep my speed up. I only drop to 3/4 or 1/2 impulse when I need to turn or when I'm trying to stay behind someone or on a weakened shield. Being able to move around has helped me to avoid enemy groups in combat or out of it.

It's also taken me some time to learn to pay attention to ships other than the one I'm shooting at. I glance up at the mini map alot. I make sure when I'm coming around that I always turn in directions away from groups I haven't engaged yet. It can be easy to lose track and to turn right into a group of ships or turrets. I've done both often enough.

If I can think of anything else, I'll let you know.
