I don't buy into the systems resource limitation claims when Cryptic just had a sale on slots.
The bridge officer uniforms are probably stored server side. They have to store the Boffs themselves server side to prevent cheating (you'd be a hex editer away from any Boff you wanted otherwise) and the uniform options are probably part of the boff data-structures.
memory usage is a big deal when you're dealing with something that scales as quickely relative to number of players as this would (every player (x) can have multiple characters and every character (y) has multiple boffs, letting every boff (z) have multiple uniforms (w) is makes the memory usage O(x*y*z*w) which is still linear because x will be the largest number by far, but it's a linear growth with a much steeper slope than the money gained from subscriptions which is simply x times a constant).
they probably don't keep your Boff uniforms client side. And when dealing wilt large numbers of players even small per-player memory increases add up on ther server side.
