honestly, having the same abilities for different weapons make them less special. and FAW is kinda like rapid fire beams. also, remodulate shields....doesnt really have a place, with E to Shields, science fleet, and APO, and reinforce3 hull(or whatever its called). the only new abilities i can see coming in would be really neat science abilities, or engineering. that pretty much does "gimmicky" stuff, not just combines 2 different abilities, or uses something existing in a different way that waters down what it effects.
bad suggestion: subspace torpedo: modifies a torpedo attack. creates a subspace rift that damages everything near to it, and any explosions make it bigger. never goes away. instantly destroys any ship attempting to leave the area. only one rank is needed.
