I'm sure that I'm NOT going to like it. I don't see why anyone has to be FORCED to play in any particular way. It's like the mission progression on Tribble before they allowed skipping. You were forced to play every mission. And they appropriately changed it to allow skipping. This is the same concept. Why should I be forced to play ground missions if I don't like them? If I gimp myself on the ground and make it harder for me, why not? It's my character, and I have no one to blame but myself, and I can live with that. The reverse is also true. Why should I be forced into 25% only ground if I want more in ground?
I have several characters, and I like to specialize. I have a space only character with no ground skills. I have a tac ground specialist with A LOT of points into ground. She is specced for multiple different kits. I also have a more balanced character. But why should I be locked into a 75/25 distribution? People argue that it makes a difference when teamed on the ground, and that people with no ground points hurt the overall team effort. That is true, but it is also true that the majority of STO is played solo. So I can't see that reason being that big of an issue. Even in PUG STFs, the main problems stem from people not knowing how to play rather than poor skill point distribution (like people showing up without a remodulator, or with no hypos, or with no regenerators, or using dual pistols, or not remodulating even though they have a remodulator. The list goes on and on).
