Well, if this is a request on PC use, how about the NPCs as well. Getting hit by two NPCs ships is not fun either.
But experience has taught, you must have ceratin counter measures to offset the returning damage to your ship.
Escorts will probably suffer more, because of limited Engineer/Sci stations, but Cruisers with extra Eng/Sci stattions, can deal with the incoming damage.
For Example:One of my cruisers, there are 3 Shield, and 3 (4) Hull heals, (but the fourth will be knocked out, because it has similar effect to another skill). An Escort may have 2 or 3 at best.
As for the returning dmg to your ship, even with low output, what changes that is their skill level, plus any console bonus they have. And plus power adjustment to said ability.
