Unfortunately, I'm not sure which skill allocation you're looking at so the best I can do is give you some generalizations.

As long as you're not jumping into a science based vessel, you should be safe putting most of your points down the engineering and tactical skill trees. You can probably unlock most of your skills by putting 6 points in most of the generalist skills (weapon training, hull integrity) and still have a few points left over. After that, you'll just have to decide if you'd rather have more of a tank or more damage.

Personally, I prefer to run the Assault cruiser as a tank. It performs very well in this role and the skills will transfer to the fleet escort fairly well (being the Eng based escort).

You can't really go wrong with a general skill layout like: http://www.stoacademy.com/tools/skil...uild=Example_0

There are still points left over, which allows you to specialize however you want.

One thing I would like to warn you about though... don't max out threat control unless you plan on taking on a tanking role and sticking with it. I've seen far to many people max out the skill and get ripped apart in STFs.
