I have issues with this.

It's a really nice story. Here's the problem. A supernova propagates at the speed of light. And stars tend to be separated by light years. So a star nation with FTL communication, FTL sensors, and FTL travel completely missed a supernova that happened, I'm guessing here, based on how far it is to OUR closest neighbor, four years before. It's a nice story but someone needs to fill that logic gap for me. Quickly. Without application of "It's for the plot."
