They didn't sit quite right with the re-imagined mission flow (the mission fronts seen in the current episode journal). Although they did in places provide some tid-bit lore and context to regions.
I imagine most of that lore has been re-purposed and combined with the Academy lore daily datalog/accolade system though.
Plus, they were extremely and unashamedly banal, irksome and monotonous.
