I'm a repulsor user. That said, I'm as careful as I can be with them i.e. watch for GW and tykens that have been thrown down as well as escorts lining up for a run. But generally they are safe to use as long as you follow one simple rule.

Stay directly ahead of the ships to be pushed.


I have to admit that I'm not perfect. There are times where I'm just a tiny bit out of alignment with the targets and I end up either scattering them or pushing them off the plane i.e. upwards or downwards.
And I'll be darned, but sometimes my sense of timing dies and I end up hitting repulsors seemingly at the same instant someone lays down a GW. I don't know about other users, but I get a horrible feeling when I see that it hasn't gone just right
Couldn't have said it better! out of the several Captains I have, only the two Sci's actually use repulsors, and even then typically only during ISN/E when I take up a nanite control role. Ok that's not entirely right, I also use them against cubes, transformers, gates for the extra damage but usually only after getting in a position where my intended target is the only thing the beam(s) hit. I can count the number of times i've needed to use them in Cure on one hand without counting the thumb, GW and tractor beams are enough. Although, yes I have actually needed to push Donatra away from a player holding agro that just wont believe the 5k cloak rule (but even THAT is done by me driving my ship directly in front of said player before hitting the repulsors).

It all comes down to people not thinking before they use them, and yes I'm also one who wont go chasing after a target thats been pushed off into the ruebarb...unless I did the pushing
