I agree in that the player numbers are, for the most part, semi-accurate enough so that when someone queues for an event it pops "reasonably close" to the appropriate time...
The only thing that is semi-misleading in these counts is when you have a "stalled on 6 queue", with 3 soloists waiting in front of a semi-premade of 3, and the game won't make soloist #3 wait for the next group until two more soloists (or a twin-pack) pops in and fires off the 3 soloists first...
On that note, I "dislike" average wait as it's all too easy to "go over" the average wait. Remember, to truly be "average", 1/2 the people need to be waiting
than the indicated time... and remember human nature, we all tend to think "it says average wait of 35 minutes, I've waited 40, this system is broken/lying".
If you're gonna go with times, then I'd go "maximum time", ie, how long from when the first guy "started" the queue till he got into that mission - so that if it takes Joe 1 hour from queue-formation till he's playing that mission, that's what the world sees - this way, we know a little better if we're gonna be playing "soon" or "soon 'tm' ".
Honestly, both would work - have a "wait time indicator" to give us an idea of how often the queue in question pops, and an "waiting player count" (as inaccurate as it may be but it's been functional enough for now) to know if the mission is closer to popping than we think...
---p.s. I like the idea of adding "more/better" reasons to play these "dead" queues, maybe having fleet marks in SB 24 or other places might get people back into them instead of keeping them on "white consoles" or whatever it pays out right now...
