MMOs usually do listen and make the mistake of being arrogant and not making a change. They think know everything and don't have a clue on how to keep loyal customers. Usually in the end they make the changes the players want, but it is usually too late to keep paying players around. When someone pays to play a free game they need to have trust in the company. When that trust is violated with stupid or greedy decisions it is hard to get that trust back. I am not saying every gaming company should just hand over everything to the players, but when 90% of the players have a problem with something that has been changed, that is a pretty good sign it is going to hurt their bottom line.
