Single Player Mission Difficulty Change?

It feels like they are doing a massive amount of higher damage than they prevously did. The difference appears to affect both ground and space missions on the Elite difficulty setting. Where previously I could work carefully through an elite difficulty mission, now (with the same equipment, strategies, and build) I literally die instantly on the very first enemy I encounter.
My character is most heavily geared for space combat with specialties and such, so prior to the last patch I did better in space than I did on the ground, but I was able to struggle through both on Elite. Now I literally die in either space or ground in seconds on the first group of enemies. The amount of damage they are outputting is insane, it kills me almost instantly. Which should Not be happening - especially to a character type which is set up to specifically be able to soak as much damage as possible.
