Bryan lay awake in his bed next to Ibalei, his Trill first officer, watching as the faint blue light from the Asynchronous warp field played over her sleeping form. As he lay there, he began remembering all the time they had spent together: journeying to 21st century New York, battling their mirror universe selves, defeating the Borg queen, ending a second Dominion war before it began, freeing the Remens from servitude, destroying a planet killer, taking the Kobayashi Maru exam in the Academy, and all the way back to their first meeting, six years ago, at their first year in the academy.

Bryan walked through the hallways briskly, tapping a few commands into his PADD's tactical simulator. He quickly analyzed a sample Klingon battle formation, added a handful of ships to his own, tapped the "Simulate" button at the bottom of the display, and watched, contented as his fleet quickly dispatched the Klingon's. All of a sudden, he bumped into someone, nearly falling over, and dropping his PADD in the process. When he turned around to yell at whomever he collided with, he saw a young, red-haired Trill women, clearly a first year cadet, just as he was, picking herself up off of the floor. She looked over to where her PADD had fallen, and tears began to form in her eyes, as it was damaged beyond hope of use. Bryan looked over to his, and seeing that it was intact, he picked it up, tapped in a few commands, and gave it to the Trill, saying, "Hey there, I believe this one is yours."

She wiped the tears from her eyes. "Are you sure?"

"Yes, quite," He responded, smiling. "I'm reasonably sure my name's not," Bryan paused a moment to look at the display, which had been hacked from the Trill's to replace the one on Bryan's, "Ibalei."

"Well, congratulations, you're the first person this term to get my name right on the first try," the Trill said, laughing a little.

"Well, I was born a spacer, so I was around many different species. It really pays to be able to guess someone's name the first time you meet them," Bryan responded, smiling. "Bryan, by the way. Nice to meet you."

"Likewise. I should probably get to class, before I'm late."

"Mind if I come with?"

"I'd imagine you have a class to get to yourself."

"Strategic command with Admiral Yanishev," Bryan said, laughing. "The last time we had everyone arrive to class on time was at the beginning of the term. Besides, I have an excuse."

"Oh? And what's that?"

"I was escorting a beautiful girl to her class."

"Flatterer." Ibalei retorted, laughing as well.

"How is it flattery if it's true?"

"Well, if you're going to come with me, you'd better hurry up, or we'll both be late."

At that, the two walked off together into the hallway, smiling, talking, and laughing, and became almost invisible in the crowd of cadets moving back and forth between their classes.

Bryan smiled to himself as he brushed a hair out of her face, his hand running down the spots on the side of her face and body. He kissed her lightly on the forehead and whispered, "I love you Ibalei. I believe I always have. I honestly can't see myself with anyone else. You're beautiful, smart, funny, and a joy to be around. And I'm glad I can finally say that we'll be together, no matter what happens, from now until we're both long gone and forgotten." At that, he smiled, and finally lay back, resting his head on the pillow next to the Trill women he was proud to call his wife.
