Playing PvE is pretty much a required part of the game. I defy anyone to tell me that they have a toon that has not done any PvE. You don't take a level 1 toon in to PvP. You level the toon up and then take it to PvP if you choose to.
I believe that PvP is broken. I know I'm not alone as I read threads stating that PvP is broken. Also, if it wasn't broken why would there be talk on Cryptic's part about fixing it?
Just to make sure I wasn't being completely one sided in my opinion I went in to PvP with various ships of mine. One ship of each type, to be specific. They were chosen as per the following criteria.
Escort - Best DPS. Something that pumps out death. It's rare that it's not the highest damage dealer in an eSTF. VERY rare.
Science - Something that mixes shield survivability with high end sci damage abilities. It has a very respectable DPS. It's rare that it's not either the 1st or second highest DPS in an eSTF.
Cruiser - An equal mix of DPS and tanking. This ship quite happily sits under a cube in elite Cure and takes out the probes without worrying about dying.
I played two games with each ship. For the sci and cruiser I died at LEAST 4 times per kill. In almost every game I was the very first target of the match; the first on my team fired upon. Makes you think that the enemy thought I would be the easiest target.
The escort? I got a 7 and 0 and a 9 and 0. I also found myself targeting the cruisers and science ships as they were the easiest to kill.
I'm sorry, but to me this seems broken. For players to target non-escorts right from the start shows that it's recognised that they're weak. For me to gravitate to killing non-escorts in the span of a few kills means that I recognised that they were weak.
From my limited experience, combined with the vast number of threads I've read about PvP being (primarily) the domain of the escort shows that it's broken.
If you make a PvP reputation players with escorts will max it out very speedily whereas people who don't fly escorts will take forever. This is unfair and should not eventuate.
Hi Sorry but i think your statment about cruisers is wrong (from a KDF point of view)
i have 2 kling tac 2 kling sci & 1 kling eng.
In pvp i actualy target cruisers not because they are weak because a cruiser in the right hands will out heal the dps delt by several escorts.
there was a TSI player thankfuly i have not seen playing in a while called ERA when that player was in a pvp you could all but give up.
You & your team could target the escorts & do your best to take them out but ERA would just out heal the damage delt.
I do agree with you that pvp is broken but from an entirly other view point than you , when one cruiser could out heal the damage given by 3 tac bops a sci bop.
that is what was (idk if it still is) wrong.
Simple fact is if your fed team is getting whooped every pvp its not the ships it not the gear its the person playing the game.
Why do i say that simples the fed`s get all the new ships lots of ways to get the gear all the pve missions that could ever be needed.... but it still wont take away the (im Kirk complex that id say 90% of fed only players have).
Now i did my first fed toon (tac) like most other feds i maxed out then tried pvp why putting it simply when sto first came out it was next to impossible to get a pvp the queue system was terrible.
even when id maxed out my toon half the time i spent waiting on pvp & the games didnt even pop id given up on pvp for like ages.
then when i finialy got to pvp went in & went boom boom boom (turns out there wernt enough klingons to get a pvp against them)
So i started my first kling tac & man it was sooooo much fun i got in to pvp virtualy from the start & had games nearly every day (thats a joke now because next to no feds play pvp @ those levels due to the insane amount of pve & or the fact that no one is ranking toons up).
What id really like to know is what a good pvp player would do with the andorian ships that have 5 forward 2 aft weapons ? (just an example of the toys the fed players get)
please show me a klingon ship never mind a klingon escort that has 5 forward weapons 4 eng consoles 32k hull prolly close to 9k shields
