Pardon my ignorance when it comes to such things as cruisers and their history... I was not as lucky as many here to gain my position through the Academy. My presence and background here is unorthodox to say the least. So I will be as frank as my post and position will allow without overstepping my place.
I find nothing is on par with those klingon ships, they are something spectacular indeed. But they do not have pesky rules and regulations to hold them back from pushing the envelope and snapping some morality rules. I myself would love to fly one, but that part of me that believes in the regality of structure and the existence of limitations would grow bored and sloppy and many lives will be lost to that.
Klinks do not feel this. Pardon the expression... but they feel victory over all things, just as dogmatic as the Jem'hadar and the Borg... well... the Borg are even worse. All the more reason to force them into submission, if ever they become aggressive again. And now that we have helped the Romulan Star empire to thrive again it's just a matter of time till they too become a threat... we may whisper it now, but tomorrow we will yell it over the explosions of our ships and the deaths of our people. So more powerful ships will be neccesary to stem the tide of battle and bring them both to heel. And if Starfleet Corps of Engineers refuse to design such ships for us then it falls to us as captains to arm them and test our mettle in the face of destruction.
But war isn't our forte is it? Even if the majority of us in this round table are tactical in nature and training, our very presence seems to make others leery of star command. Even I find myself puzzled by it.... So many tactical officers in such a peaceful time.
But this is not ethics this is tactics, ladies and gentlemen. So let us discuss the ships that can be a solution and not a hindrance.
I find the Odyssey class, the so called flag ship to be too romantic to be effective in anything other then a punching bag. In fact I'm finding that to be the norm when it comes to our big girls. They are too much bark without enough bite. Perhaps that too is a part of the red tape that ties us feds together. Having our enemies laughing at us and another half of our brethren threatening desertion or civil war.
We do not need any more stop gap ships that can do one thing too much and another not enough, we need ships that can take over all the roles neccesary on a fly to push back the enemy.
The ship that can do that is the ship I am interested in speaking about. Do we have such a ship or ability to refit a existing design?
