Now that you mention it, though, the first one looks like it might in an atmosphere, with air diffusing some of the light coming out of the window back to soften it overall; I think a structure in actual vacuum would have the higher contrast and sharp edges between light and dark.

The fact that Earth didn't have its atmosphere for the second pic might also be affecting our perception of it, though.
