Hi. I've recently managed to get a friend of mine to play STO. What he needs help with is a good starting Setup/build for new players.

I basically want him to get a good all around build that can do very well in PvE and decently in PvP, though PvP is not really necessary. Atm he has a klingon Science officer ( lord knows why klingon ), but he's thinking of changing to tact as its less "micro-management".
I've told him the equivilant roles each career performs compared to other MMO's, but he's in two minds about what to roll. Currently he's just going slow as he's unsure what to take.

Any advice you can give would be very helpful.

Well Klingon Science officer was the first problem... they're not too bright due to all the head bashing. :p

Anyway.. to me Tac + Escort or Eng + Cruiser are probably the 'easiest' professions to get into the game with. You can mix and match professions of course but it tends to throw extra management needs into the mix.

Engineer in a cruiser is proberly the most forgiving. Use high arc beam weapons and play with a high shield power setting and he should be fine
