# 1 Raptor: Any real point?
02-08-2010, 08:16 PM
I picked the Raptor as my ship in T2, but ended up switching to the BOP for greater flexibility.

I picked the Raptor again as my ship in T3, but switched to the K'Tinga because it just seems better all around. I could also go with the BOP and the only thing I'd be giving up is one rank of bridge officer.

The Raptor has 1 less weapon than the K'Tinga and less hull. It turns better but the K'Tinga is no slouch. Granted the K'Tinga has more Engineer than Tactical positions but:
a) An ensign tactical officer isn't that useful anyway
b) If you want +DPS, you can do that with engineer abilities (my K'Tinga ensign engineer is doing Emergency Power to Weapons which is a nice little DPS buff. I suspect it's better overall than an extra High Yield Torp or mediocre beam ability).

So is the Raptor really fulfilling its position? It seems like no matter what you want to do, either the K'Tinga or the BOP is better.

I've never flown a raptor, I always took the BoP and now in T4 I'm in the Battlecruiser myself. I've seen some pretty insane DPS put out by the BoP which was supposed to be what the Raptor excelled at I thought. I dunno if it's just me, but I just don't see Raptors hardly used. I'm sure I'll eventually get one now that I'm almost T5, if nothing else just for a change. But I've had my wonders myself about why you just don't see many Klingons using the Raptor much anymore.

As a Federation player, I am always thrilled to see a Raptor, because it means that player is a ship with low durability, no Battle Cloak, and limited higher-tier Engineering slots (so not too much in the way of survival-boosting abilities).

They're pretty much just a target, unless there's something about them I'm missing.

Raptors are dissapointing, I flew one in beta, would get one volley of fire off and boom, i'm dead, Switched to a BoP, and had a much more enjoyable experience, looking at stats, the raptor is just not that good, it definately needs so be retooled, As stated by others, when on my fed i smile to see a raptor as i know it's a PoS.

raptors are like the federation escorts...the weakest out of the bunch IMO.

Well when you have got 15 to kill, and need to get your 15 before the other guys get theirs, you go for the weakest links. Escorts are our targets, Raptors, and BoP are their primary targets. It would just be silly for them to primary some of us in our battlecruisers, some of us are built like brick shythouses, lol.

Worf cries every time he hears a Klingon officer choosing a Raptor as his mount.

The issue isn't so much that the Raptor is "bad".

The issue is just the Bird of Prey is better.

A lot of people like to whine and cry over battlecloak but it's not the i-win button ignorant people seem to think it is. If you're being shot at by two or more players and hit battlecloak, you're probably going to die because your shields drop instantly and it takes time to fully disappear and become untargetable.

The thing about the bird of prey is simply the versatility. Fitting any officer in any slot is just amazing. You can even re-assign officers to different stations within the same pvp match to completely change your role in the battle to better compliment what your team needs (unless you're an awful player).

If the raptor had that same versatility, I promise you'd see more Klingon players using it. As it stands though, for damage dealing the bird of prey is the better choice, and it's the only ship that can adequately function as a science vessel as well. So that only leaves the tank role, which falls to the cruisers.

BOPs are just too good to pass up.

I too took a raptor at T2 and switched. I thought BoP for PvP and raptor for PvE but found the BoP is just better for both.

Talking about T3, what makes a battlecruiser (the K'tinga if memory don't fail) an interesting choice for a tactical klingon? how does it make it as viable as a T3 BoP?
