starships do not travel at that speed. the warp field around the ship does. Essentially the ship is not moving. Essentiall meaning that the ship is in a buble...that moves through space time at faster then light. The crew is fine. And the ship itself is protected within the buble by inertial dampeners, to keep it smooth...

Yes, except the ship doesn't accelerate to light-speed, it accelerates to less than light-speed and folds the universe around itself.

And somehow I can't imagine this not being one of the reasons for navigational deflectors.
