I have recently heard a rumor that Cryptic was going to remove Turret Weapons from Science Vessels and Cruisers because they are technically, "Cannon" Weapons. Personally, I disagree with this decision (if it is true) and here is why.

Quite honestly, I find this to be a significant nerf to Science Vessels who are operating in a Debuff/Immobilization type role. For my particular build/strategy, this would drastically decrease my DPS and limit my Tactical BO skills to Tactical Team and Mine Skills since Tricobalts are unaffected by High Yield and Torpedo Spread skills.

I am currently running Two Dual Beam Banks and a Tricobalt Mobile Device Launcher up front and Three Turrets in rear. I use Tetryon Beams and Turrets. Without Turrets, I would lose a significant portion of my combat ability, enabling only the use of 2 Beam Banks and 1 Turret when facing the Target. My strategy depends on me facing the target, thus why it is so important that I equip Turrets in the rear.

I understand that Turrets are an, "Escort" thing, however I find that eliminating Turrets from Science Vessels and Cruisers may limit methods in combating certain enemies and remaining competitive in PvP. One major disadvantage I see as a result of this, is no real way to counter Feedback Pulse in PvP as a Cruiser (Science Vessels can use Viral Matrix).

If I may make a suggestion here, if it is absolutely important that Turrets be removed from Science Vessels and Cruisers, please add rear mountable beam weapons that can fire front-ward; so as not to limit players creativity in strategy due to the lack of variety in weapon types. I do not understand how any such decision would make the game more fun or balanced in anyway (especially since Turrets are the weakest weapon type in the game).

I concure to this post. If turrets gets removed from science and cruiser ships, how are we then going to combat the already OP FBP?

I don't know if there's any truth to this nerf.

I suspect it's a rumor that got started based on the fact that the anti-proton turrets in Gamma Orionis are restricted to escorts. Someone mentioned that on Tribble, that restriction has been removed. So I suspect it was a bug and that we'll see it corrected in the big content patch.

I hope this is true. I would hate to see the Turrets removed from the other ship classes.

This is not true. It has not been announced anywhere, there is no evidence or even a sentence taken out of context that would imply this is happening. Plus, there is just no reason for it. Turrets are great if used correctly, but they have to many problems for lots of people to even want to use it. (The damage range)

Maybe you should find a post about this before you start spreading rumors.

Turrets are alive and well on Tribble. All weapons have had their power consumption numbers adjusted.

The Sky is not falling.

Nah, they're not removed.

Their energy cost is going to be jacked way up.

actually turret energy consumption is reduced, if those patchnotes are still in effect that is:

Cannons
There are no longer any firing restrictions on cannons. (Removed shared cooldown)
Weapon power costs now show in weapon tooltips.
Increased DHC cost from 5 to 12 power.
Increased DC cost from 5 to 8 power.
Increased SC cost from 5 to 6 power.
Reduced Turret cost from 5 to 4 power.

They increased turrets again in the lastest patch to 8 energy. Undocumented change, so no telling if it was intentional or not, but I would guess they did it for the same reason they nerfed EPS Flow Regulators.

No they are NOT getting removed.

Smack whoever said that to you on the back of their head.


In fact they already said they're fixing the Anti Proton Turrets to work on Cruisers.
