5 ships firing constantly at it, we can't get it under 99%. Of course all the squatters didn't help either. Is there any kind of special tactic? I mean, we seriously couldn't even get it to 98%...

You get faster ships (Sovereign Assault Class Is what i used) With a lot of power to the weapons and fire only phassers at it till you get i down to 30%. Then you use ramming speed to kill it and make sure Not TO USE TORPEDOES. It uses them to produce shards (that doesn't mean it wont Produce them) but it takes a good number off your back. Then Remember DO NOT SHOOT THE SHARDS THEY HEAL IT!!!!!!!!!!!! Hope This Helps If Not Look For me On the Game.

Or, completely ignore bob for giving you stupid advice.

The only shards that will heal the CE are the small ones, feel free to do whatever you want to the large or normal shards since they wont do squat to the CE.

While yes, beams only will reduce the amount of shards headed for you, it's unlikely you'll get the DPS needed to overwhelm teh CE's regeneration rate.. you NEED torpedoes.

We found the best approach was a few science ships with scram sensors, 3 of 4 cruisers - heavy on the torpedoes (tactical officers if possible) and our approach was this.

Cruisers and heavy ships sit at about 9 - 9.5kms, pump torpedoes and debuffs on the CE as you fire, dont bother moving, don't bother with anything else except firing. Now the science ships and escorts jobs were to shoot any shards headed for you, as long as you're above 30% health, torpedoes on the shards are fine, and when the shards explode from being destroyed they damage shards around them.

Now, all the while the escorts and sci ships are deflecting shards from teh cruisers, the sci ships really need to be firing scram sensors on the Ce, this stops all shards (except ones that are spawned after the CE is scrammed). So 2 or 3 science ships with a level 9 scram will keep the CE shards chronically frozen.

Under 30% is a whole other ballgame, this is where scram sensors becomes more important, and the cruisers need to start moving (circling), they need to keep their range and keep torpedoes fired at Ce. Escorts need to be fast moving and able to kill any large shards they see spawn while the CE is scrammed, as long as they dont collide with the large shards or drop mines on them (this is a collision), then they explode without spawning small shards. Torpedoes are not as safe here since they cause the large shards to explode and splash damage for some reason (as opposed to beam which dont), so it's just safer to use escorts to cannon/beam large shards while they're frozen.

That's how it's done.

Well now that it is level banded (or level restricted?) when you get the mission in the upper part of your Tier 2, anyone doing it at Tier 2 will not have a ship capable of outrunning the shards.

Also they changed its vulnerability to ramming speed, so that attack does not work.

And now due to the fact that the majority of players no longer need to do this FA, there are never enough players in zone to enough DPS to destroy it. I am not saying its impossible, but for any new player or anyone attempting to do this mission now will find it almost impossibly hard. Unless one is able to gather up 20 or so players in their respective tier - good luck finding 10.

The Crystalline Entity is now an abhorrent Fleet Action that requires a ridiculous demand on players for any kind of victory. It is simply not fun anymore.

Drucard has a good point, it's very difficult to get enough people together for a rank separated CE encounter, plus on top of it it's hard to get enough feds together to do any PVP content.

Now that we can't change instances for the CE, we also can't escape idiots clinging to their belief that the CE regenerates when you shoot the shards... The shear amount of ingrained superstition about the mechanics of the CE is near that of religious proportions... I'd rather argue religious text interpretations with a close-minded fundamentalist than discuss the CE mechanics.. As at least in one case you can agree to disagree and go about your business whereas with the CE... the job just never gets done.

The problem mentioned above is so true. I think players spend more time fighting each other in this encounter than the Crystalline Entity. I wrote up some information on the CE in the link pasted below, but without getting the right information passed along to people within the game this fleet action is going to continue to be a major headache. There is just too much bad information floating around out there.

Otherwise, it's level banded now so I can't help levels Captain and below.
