# 2 Avatar coming back to theatres
04-23-2010, 08:47 PM
I saw something on the Internet within the last week or so that Avatar should be coming back to theatres. I don't remember where I read it. I think once the other 3-D movies run their course they will put Avatar back in.

I just googled it and it is already playing at several theatres in and around Dallas, Texas.

Also, don't get confused with Avatar, The Last Airbender. It will be coming out 2 July 2010 as The Last Airbender.

I saw in in I-max 3D, The guy next to me was killed by a spear, and the top row was hit with a heat seeking missile.

If you go to the movies and don't come back with a little bit of blood on you, you went to the wrong movie.

+1 to "it's worth seeing in 3D". It was filmed as a 3D movie from the beginning, rather than having it pasted in after filming. And it shows.

The depth perception is fluid and continuous, without feeling like "3D for 3D's sake". There was one scene where I flinched, but it was perfectly appropriate to the scene. And it was the only "comin' at ya!" that I remember. There were some other things that seemed closer than the screen, but they weren't for the sake of "in your FACE!", and I felt they enhanced the scenes they were in.

The story is indeed obvious and predictable, as mentioned. But that doesn't make it any less of an enjoyable story. And they did occasionally do something different from what I expected. It is "primitives" vs "civilized", but I wouldn't go so far as to call it "Pocahontas". I think those who do have not actually seen it.

I strongly urge you to see it once on the large screen, in 3D. (I saw it flat screen, not Imax, so I can't comment on the difference there.)

(Also, I usually get a splitting headache from 3D movies. While I did get one from Avatar, it was barely worth an aspirin. Not the pseudo-migraine 3D normally gives me.)

See it at least once on the big screen. It's worth it.

Normally, I'm not too crazy about people making random sci-fi characters in an already established universe... But if that's your Na'vi as your avatar, I can make an exception. Extremely well done!

The CGI was nice candy but what I loved about Avatar was it's parallels to the plight of the Native Americans as they were driven from their homes by white settlers. I am glad in the movie at least they won, for now.
