Since the Klingons got a unique Carrier class added to their standard ones (Bird-of-Prey, Raptor, and Battle Crusier), I'm wondering what kind of unique class could be given to the Federation, if or when Cryptic decides to add one? (it doesn't have to be a Carrier, that would only make the Klingon players mad)

Right now, we have Cruisers, Escorts, and Science Vessels. What kind of class could the Federation use, especially since it's in the middle of war?

And please, no aruguments about the fact that the Feds have more content then the Klingons, that's not what this thread is for.

Medical Ships? As a explorer/diplomatic fleet first and defense as a necccasity of life, I can see such a class of ship existing in the star fleet ships of the line.

The medical (hospital) ships are already represented as T3 science vessels.

Okay.....looking at various post by players regarding the next "generation" ship for Federation side that is more specifical role have been throw about ranging from Hospital Ships to Repair Ships to Attack Wings (Attack Squadrons) to Carriers.

The idea of anything such as Hospital or Repair Ship as support is already done by cruisers and science ship using the respective abilites of the Boffs. As for carriers and Attack Squadrons are too similar to each other and the Klingon side carrier ship.

So how about a specific ship designed for area-suppression or area-denial?

It would be a something akin to a battlecruiser or carrier with the abilty to deploy stationary shielded weapons turrets?

The ship that deploys these stationary turrets would be have to be at least battlecruisers in size and slow moving capable or deploying a maximum of five stationary gun turrets and five torpedo turrets.

Later.

P.S. It seems like a good idea, then again maybe not.

I frankly love the idea of flying a squadron, but keeping it to a set of fighters. A single fighter might not be able to get far, but a group of them would be able to travel far distances. Also, we're not talking about simple cockpits with engines, we are talking about ships crewed by up to ten people. I would love to have a small, tight squadron and zip in to protect the bigger ships.

Area denial seems too restrictive for the fast combat that normally happens. I like the idea in general, perhaps combining it with an ability to set up a permanent gravity well?

I think it would be fair to give the feds a BoP type ship with universal BO/console slots and give the klingons a more specialized sci ship.

My idea for the battlship would fill such a role w/o pets and droppable items.

I was thinking more as a seperate class with vessels to match. Seperate healing from the science class and create a Medical class that incorporates healing as it main focus. Hell, take it a step further and take healing from the cruisers, leave only resistance abilties for them to use and give the healing to a Medical class instead.

I think the Feds need a cultural contact ship. Sort of an interstellar bookmobile.

No weapons, but two shield slots.

It would have 8 ensign slots, all tactical.

The Nebula refit is unique in that it's a cruiser/science vessel hybrid rather then a true science vessel. I assume any Akira refit done will probably be an escort/cruiser hybrid rather then a standard escort update. I'm not sure the game needs any more specific class ships: IE, it would be cool for the Feds to have a carrier but it's not really necessary.
