I wonder if there is any way I can work together with a friend on foundry missions—not just a conceptual exchange of ideas (as done here on the forums), but actually from within the foundry. I could not find any such functionality, so I came up with this idea.
It seems technically difficult to manage two or more players working on the same mission at the same time, so instead I think of team based (or perhaps fleet based) repositories of missions that other players of that group can continue to work on or perhaps incorporate in their own missions. Based on current foundry development, “sharing” projects would seem the easiest method to achieve something like this.
So, Is there actually any way of working together like this in game? I’d also like to know how you handle collaborative mission design. What forms of communication do you use and what portions of development do you share and how frequently? Do you share accounts (is that legal?) to have another player look at your unfinished designs? I am basically looking for some inspiration on how to work together with my friends.
I think unfortunately there is no way to do what you say from within the Foundry atm. It sucks but that is the way it is. The only thing I can think of is you share dialog and story progression ideas through word and msn/email/etc and the actual developing the map share screenshots with each other. The only other thing I can think of to test it between each other is to publish the unfinished designs and test them.
There is no way to do this, from within the foundry editor itself. However, over at StarbaseUGC, on the wiki, we have just started a new section called Asset Sharing, which would allow you to do this.
You can find the Asset Sharing section by clicking on this link, or click the banner in my signature. This would require copy/pasting all the information for assets that you have created, but it would allow users to use the different assets that you've created. It would also allow friends to load up something that you've already built, and add or subtract some things.
Right now, this is the closest we can get to collaborating on maps/missions.
