# 1 Borg / covariant shields
07-03-2011, 11:37 AM
Just wondering what the common consensus is regarding using the Borg set with Borg shields or a Covariant alternative.

If you propose a covariant alternative, do you recommend the Reman or Aegis shields?

Thoughts?

Shield choice (considering the chnage currently on tribble to balance them) is entirely down to your play.

Covariants I find are nice on escorts where i will get his hard very quickly(but dont care about regen as the targets usually dead after a pass or two)

The borg shield when used with the other borg gear gives you 2 proc shield heals and a tractor beam!

I would advise trying both and then decide how it works out for you

I find that I use the Breen Set, until I have completed Infected and earned the Borg Engines. Then I swap out the Breen Shields with the Reman depending on how I feel.

There have been many posts about shield discussions, and the only conclusion is that there is a shield for every gameplay/style and every situation. If you want to be an escort flying around Alpha striking and leave the field of battle, go for the Covariant. Do you want to stick in battle a little longer but loosing alot of capacity (and possible defense against an unseen attack) take a Normal or even Regenrative shield.

Hint: The regeneration rate of a Covariant is so slow that you are probably have to rely on Bridge officer abilities only to heal your precious shield.

So it might be wise to check out the forums and you will know your answer. (Partly), the other part will come with practical experience and 'feel'

Borg shield is amazing if you throw it on a cruiser with 125 power, 3x13% regen and a 35% field generator.. Were talking ~400 regen per arc, per sec

Wonder where did you get that numbers from.
For starters "%" based consoles do not stack at all.

Reman and Aegis shields are only really useful when combined with another mod from their respective set. Otherwise you're better off with those Covariant capx3 shields from K7, or that fancy Borg super-regen build that will probably get nerfed in the future.

If you run high shield power and can have a reasonably high uptime on EPtS/TSS, the Borg shields are amazingly fun.
