# 1 Garumba: Is it worth it?
07-03-2011, 08:21 PM
I'm levelling my Klingon Sci character, and while I'll deffinitely try Raptors, I was wondering how good the Garumba is? Would it work with a Sci character? I can imagine a 3 hit combo with tractor, subnuc and javelin being quite devestating, but how useable is siege mode? And siege mode aside, is their a comparable Fed ship? I've seen Garumbas wreak havoc, but I've also seen them do very little. Also, they are shockingly cool...

So if the Garumba pilots could fill me in on their experience with this ship I'd be mighty grateful.

Garumba's are great ships, and I've no doubt if you've found balance in science raptors you'll find a spot to love for the Guramba, but it is primarily engineering oriented over science given its boff slots.

Seige mode is good if you have support. You do not want to use the mode alone, it won't help you. Given the time it takes to build up the energy, and then line up a shot with the -50% to turn its difficult to do alone, but when you do its gratifying. I've one shot people with it.

I've got one captained by a ENG Naussican. It's a fun ship, but the javelin doesn't get much play in normal game play. If you play on advanced difficulty or higher it'll see more use, but on normal ships simply pop too quickly.

Beyond that, it's a fun ship to fly.

it has a fun factor. you do tend to spend far too much time trying to line the javelin up for your 'death star moment' at the expense of trying to do normal damage or stay alive.

if all you do is pvp then id probably stick to a raptor but in pve its a lot of fun and when you do hit your special attack its a great feeling.

I love the Guramba in PvE, but I'm sticking with a Raptor in PvP.

4 box Tac / 3 box Tac / 1 box Eng / 2 box Eng / 2 box Sci...seems more Tactical oriented to me...

The Guramba is basically a Fed Fleet Escort (same BO layout) with a bit more hull and crew but 1 less engineering console.

You will loose a lot of turn rate and defense when in Siege mode, so its use is definitly situational. There were too many situations in PvE when I enjoyed the Death Star configuration and forgot to pay attention to my health. Basically you turn into a cruiser with the health and shields of an escort, so next to tacticals I would say engineers are the best choice.

Not saying you can't enjoy it as a science captain, but be prepaired that you will have difficulties lining your ship up in siege mode. For PvP you need heavy team support or an enemy that is asleep or you are toast.

That being said, it is a fun ship and the look is totally special. If you like it therefore, go for it. You just have to adapt to the weaknesses like you would have with every other ship.

Edit: Before you buy it, copy your character to tribble and test it. You can get free Lt. General tokens from the ship requisition guy and the Guramba is also available there.

I will do that, I've recently switched my Fed Engineer over to the fleet escort after testing it on Tribble, and it's working out great for me.

If you have patience, wait until another 50% off ships sale...
It's a good escort, best used with fleet support, great for burst DPS.
But it is a little pricey in the Cstore.
You can fly it for free on Tribble to test it, beam to the shipyard, find the console with the "buy experimental ships" and take it for a test run.
Respec your captain there for it and it'll rock even more.
