I hear lots of talk about torpedo spread needing a nerf due to the amount of crits it can produce, If anything I think the amount of misfires I get from it are making it unviable to use. I can count on two hands how many kills it cost me yesterday. I haven't kept an exact tally sheet like I should but I can easily say it bugged at least 1/3 of the time. If it weren't so helpful at me killing pets without having to worry about targeting them I would have already switched back to hy by now.
The only reason there are many crits is simply because of the number of torpedoes flying out there thus increasing the chance automatically that some of those are crits. I get it more severe since I use a quantum that has severity times 2.
Imo, Spread is a cheap way of doing loads of hull damage to your target and/or surrounding targets.
It saddens me on how many people actually begin to use it now that its revamped, same story goes for FaW when it was revamped, and LoL'peng when it was released.
My question is, why? Do you not have a solid build as it is, or have you not come to that point in PvP yet?
Do you really need to use a potential OP ability? Because, and lets be honest here, thats why you are using it. If you use Spread, you tell other people something about your attitude and build in a negative sense. For all this, exceptions noted.
Btw; the misfires you have is absolutely no excuse to use a potential OP ability because it would balance it out. Tricobalts are just as buggy and misfire as well often;
- Sometimes it just puts the torp back to 30 second cooldown with whatever reason.
- Alot of times you shoot it at a target, it explodes, shows no Hit nor a 'miss' sign thus in reality does nothing but showing off the animation. Neither does the stun work when this happens.
- The Tricobalt is so screwed up with the current tray engine that it reacts differently to GenSendMessage HUD_Root FireTorps and +TrayExecByTray or a mouseclick. Even interference with other abilities refusing the tricobalt to fire at all. (And trico needs good timing to be effective)
Having that said, the Trico can be shot down and this is especially true in an arena match, 1 shot from a FaW and its gone, another penalty for Tricos.
And yet I like it and I wouldnt not throw it away because Its fun popping people with 50 - 110K trico hits. But for what its worth its just as buggy as Spread.
I seem to remember BigRedJedi noticing that when _one_ Spread misses, all of them miss. I wonder if this also causes the misfires - the miss is already calculated, and sometimes the client or the server simply says: Don't show anything, nothing can happen.
Does anyone know if the THY has individual crit chances on each round or does it calculate it once and applies it to all rounds?
I believe each torp has it's own damage and crit chance, but I may be wrong on that; I remember talk way back when of HYT 2 actually being a "trap", with HYT 1 actually having a better chance of crits or something.
