# 1 Sci Officer in a Tac Ship?!
11-03-2011, 10:20 AM
So I started my new pet project, a Sci Officer running in an Escort. I'm not sure what to expect. Part of me wonders if I'm just going to be a watered down Tac Officer with a more useful skillset, or whether I'm going to be a superpowered sci officer who dishes out death much faster than I would should I be in a Sci Ship.

So which is it? I have a decent build prepared (it looks good on paper), but are there any common trappings I should NOT fall into as I try this? Any tips others have who may have tried this before?

Any help is appreciated, thanks!

It depends on you play style and what your skill tree and boff choices look like.

for the most part all the toons i got run their respective ship designs along the profession, but one of my toons uses an assault cruiser and she is a tac. slightly clumsy at finesse like an escort, but can be just as useful as a distraction. the two times plasma drop helps with the harghpeng and fire on my mark and all weapons firing :p. most enemies end up being destroyed in quick order. it's not an insane idea, it's as the previous poster states it, as you playing style goes.

I can say as you level up, science in an escort can be rather deadly. When you can to the higher levels, you will have certain skills that tacticals don't have. Its not a bad idea to be in an escort as a science. I have leveled science in both science and escorts and I can tell you its better to level a science character in an escort.

Sensor scan, SNB and the Tactical lay-out of Escort abilities make the Scicort pairing very deadly.

This was my line of thinking. Add in Photonic Fleet and things should get silly.

One of the biggest challenges I think I may face is my power distribution. While many of my Sci Skills will be spent on defensive abilities (Sci Team, Hazard Emitters), I know that many of the sci skills I have as a Sci Officer are based on AUX. So balancing my offense and my AUX levels will be tricky.

My second alt is a SCI/TAC and it worked pretty well. Just focus on things that will upgrade your photonic fleet skill. It is the best space skill in the game IMHO.
