Wish we didnt need to tell you things like this... pretty simple!

I dont see the logic in this... the game goes F2P on Jan 17th. So why would anyone buy it now?

huh? but.... free to play... coming... brain hurting.....

You would still have to buy the game most likely its the same with other f2p games.

I started CO (and bought a lifetime) after F2P. I never paid a dime for the actual game client.

While that may be how it is for other games, it won't be for Star Trek. As the F2P FAQ states:

And don't forget, you also get 500 CP, so it's worth it, even with F2P coming pretty soon.
