I want a Galaxy class...Defiant is cool too (DS9 is the best Trek show to me)

However I can't help but feeling that I'm wasting my potential by being a Tac officer in a Cruiser when it really seems like an Engineer's ship. Is it really that big of a deal if I'm just doing PvE (on Advanced for now, possibly Elite later when I'm more comfortable)?

If its not a big deal now, for future reference should I go with an escort when I get to 40 so I'm at peak effeciency for STFs?

For anyone that plays Klingon, I have a similar question. I already got a Vor'cha as a Tac (just hit 30) and I kind of regret not getting a Raptor in hindsight. Should I get a Raptor at 40?

If you're just PvEing you're not wasting any potential. I have Tacs in Cruisers, Tacs in Science, Scis in Escorts, and every other combination. The important thing is to have fun. PvE is easy enough that you can't really make a wrong build.

Even for STFs though? With threads like the "escort build" one it makes them seem like a hell of a thing.

If you do STFs with Fleetmates or the same groups of people you can get away with a lot. If you're Pugging, though, everyone expects you to operate a specific way, do things at a certain time, etc. But even then you can get away with some interesting combinations. There's plenty of Tac officers using Dreadnoughts in STFs, for example. I don't care for the Elite STFs because even doing them doesn't guarantee you a drop.

For elites I say you might be better with escort. But if you get the right BO skills and find the right build you may find even that not necessary. However you may get comments if you pug STFs.

There always going to be loud mouth annoy players that no better then everyone and have to let you know your not doing things the way they think you should. But then that why I do not pug Elite STF I only do them with fleet mates.

Agree the only time you may want to do do escort in PVE is for Elite STF. Other wise fly what ever you want. You could also switch to Excelsior for Elite STF or the new odessy which be out next week.

You may need help from engineer officer to get bridge officer skills you want. But that where fleet can help you.

The Excelsior is a C-Store ship. The Odyssey is being given out for free between the 2nd and 6st to anyone who does the mission - though there will be a more advanced C-Store version of the ship for sale in the C-Store later.

Sure this has been asked a million times, but I could use a link to more info about this. What mission exactly?

I'm a Fed Tac officer and I went with the Galaxy when I hit Captain. It was fun and very "Trek" feeling. But I was mostly doing PvE so the immersion was great.

Now that I'm a VA and most of my content is PvP or STFs I've gotten the VA level Defiant to really max out the DPS. I'm glad I went with a Galaxy to start so that I have that experience under my belt.

I say if your a Captain, go with the Cruiser. There's plenty of time to fly an escort later in the game as the end game content is really DPS focused anyway.
