Priority One Podcast - Episode 66 - Al Good Things...Part 1

Quote:
03 February 2012 | Its the show so nice we are going to air it twice! We are joined by Cryptic Lead Designer, Al Rivera on the show this week! He answers your questions, and in such great detail, that we had to split the show into two parts. Al answers some of our questions and a metric ton of community questions. There is quite possibly more information in this one interview, than in all our previous interviews combined! Thank you Al, this was a treat for us and, we hope, for our listeners. Enjoy Part One of Episode 66 and tune in Monday February 6th to hear Part 2, the thrilling conclusion of Episode 66, “Al Good Things.”

Our Blank of the Week features a couple of fantastic Videos and a message from a friend. First, Lily Garrett produced a shockingly good STO Anniversary Tribute Video, to mark the occasion. And not to be outdone, Cryptic released an awesome promo video for the forthcoming Dominion Featured Episode Series. Also we take a minute to talk about Adam Ihle, the creator of the U.S.S. Enterprise - F. He finds himself in need of some assistance, and the Star Trek Community is here to prove that we are the living Roddenberry Vision. Make it so!

In STO News, we cover Season 5 Dev Diary entries 15, 16 and 17, which feature news from Stephen D'Angelo on the upcoming Dominion Series, STO's move to STEAM, and the Foundry Author's Tip Jar, as well as highlights from the recent patch notes!

Check out the new Priority One Facebook Page and say hello!

Also, be on the lookout for Alex's newest Priority One Comic Series Update. Check it out here!

Thank You AL for the warm reassurances of upcomming KDF content to complete the faction I love.

SOooooo... Hiring Podcasters.... I know of one that may be of use to you.
Not me of course. I'm way to unstable for game development.

To bad the first part was nothing but fanboi fluff. We have all heard for 2 years of more Klingon content. I'll believe it when I see it. Maybe in Part 2 you will ask some tough questions like getting the decloaking bug fixed or when the rest of the Klingon ships listed in f2p blog #10 will be released. Of course I won't hold my breath on that either.

The Son'a were dying during the events of Insurrection but since they then went and joined forces with the Dominion it's safe to say that they were getting expert help in genetic engineering to solve that issue. It would've been nice to have seen them added to the forces we fight in the Cardassian sectors, but oh well.

Great show guys, i enjoyed it alot.

Yo Al, you never comment on my part of the question about KDF uniforms, did the Orions not have any clothing of their own style before joining the klingons other than the few minor items?

This does raise the question of whether the game could use Son'a mixed in with its Dominion/True Way mobs.

Why all the hate? They didn't spend the entire podcast QQ'ing about how much they are ready to ragequit, unlike Mav from RedShirtArmy, and they don't ACTUALLY ragequit on air and slap an entire gaming community and its developers in the face, unlike Chris Fisher from STOked. When I want to feel good and excited about STO, I will listen to PriorityOne. When I want to feel let down, disappointed, and ragey, I will come here and read one of D'Angelo's dev diaries. Simple as that.

My point is that whatever gets you off or turns you on, this community has what you need. You will never find criticism or hate of STO on PriorityOne, though, for better or for worse. If that's what you need, tune in to RSA and listen to Mav complain and moan while Cohas tries to keep the show together.

I thought they did a really good job with the interview. And they got to keep up a positive attitude to keep people watching them and to keep morale up to play STO. But I'm sure when important questions come up in the community, they won't hesitate to throw the gauntlet.

I'm hoping Al Rivera can comment on this:

During the interview I recall the talk about the Roddenberry rules of design. If I remember correctly, he said the followed it or along those lines. But yet with the new BortaS class, it completely ignores that rule. The Warp Nacelles line of sight rules was completely is ignored.

Why?

Is the BortaS going to get revamped to obey this traditional rule or you guys going to throw it out the door now?

Has nothing to do with rage quitting, it does have to do with asking the good with the bad. When Cryptic is due praise, I have no problem with it. When they screw up they deserve to be asked the hard questions and sometimes need to be put on the spot. Example, what is hard about asking when bugs that have existed from launch are still out there, or broken basic mechanics are left to rot for over a year going to be fixed. Even something as easy as when ships listed in Cryptic's on F2P blogs are going to be released. If tough questions aren't asked when warranted, especially on a podcast where there is visability, how is the game ever going to improve?
