# 1 Newbie Question about consoles
02-24-2012, 09:27 AM
I've been searching (buying/from loot) those consoles that gives like % for shield/weapon damage
Is it stack-able? I currently have 4 +24% of a certain type of weapon that I have on my escort,
but sometimes the weapon damage just kept changing.... This is without me firing or doing anything

Do I have to be on board the ship (which is in space) to be able to see the difference? Since when I was
taking my time in front of the exchange / bank console the weapon damage is not changing after I put
these in my tactical console.

My second question is about the shield +35%, if say I have 2, would that count like +35% or
1.35 + ( 1.35 x 0.35 ) or 1.7..... Was just wondering because sometimes I see my shield is about
35% more, but then without changing anything, just by swapping equipment in space station then putting
it back, my shield drops back down to original .....

My Third question is sometimes I used those +proton etc resistance damage, but they do not give the
full amount. This is not even when using 2 of them.. I think I have old +24 proton/dis/tet and something
forgot.... resistance... but when I put it on my ship it only gives like 16.1 ? Don't remember the exact amount
and I'm asking this while patching

Sorry if this is confusing, I don't even know how to start to ask this question =\

Thanks for reading and appreciate it very much if I can get an answer

The field generator (+35% capacity) is not stackable. However, the weapon damage ones can be stacked. You need to be in a space map to see the differences, though. Space stats don't always display correctly when you are on the ground. I, in fact, just tested this last night as I was testing to see if I should go with 4x phaser relays versus 3x phaser relays plus a quantum torpedo console. The tooltip showing DPS on my cannons did change when I swapped the consoles in and out.

Yes, that's what happened to me too!

Thank you very much for the answer, especially for the shield add-on

I still don't understand why the shown defense on my ship is not the same on the add-on I put on my
engineering console though =\

Defense is modified by a lot of different things. Skill points, gear, and also your SPEED. If you really want to know what your defense bonus is, you have to be moving at your usual combat speed to see it.

I think it is more like everything gets added together to come up with your final numbers. I don't know the exact details of how the calculations work.

Also, defense and resistance are 2 different things. Defense is how likely you are to be hit by something. The higher your defense, the more likely the shot will miss you. The counter to defense is Accuracy. The higher your accuracy, the more likely your shot will hit something and not miss. Resistance deals with how much damage something does to you if it were to hit you. The higher your resist is to a particular type of damage, the less damage you will take from it when it hits you.

No. Defense and Damage resistance are two methods of damage mitigation. But they go about it differently. Defense (which counters Accuracy and vice versa) is a measure of avoiding being hit entirely via ToHit roll. If you get missed, you "dodged" the attack: no damage. Damage Resistance kicks in when you actually are hit. Damage resistance will reduce the amount of damage that your take.

The amount of reduction is governed by this equation:

base damage / ( 1 + (<resistance total> / 100 ) = damage taken.

Resistance total the total of applicable resistance from armor consoles, ability, buffs, etc. As an example if you have +50 Damage Resistance for vs Disruptor damage. From a 100 pts hit, you would take 100 / ( 1 + (50/100) ) = 100 / 1.5 = 66.666 pt.

If you aren't already, try unequipping the item from your ship completely then reequipping it, not just swapping it's position with another console.

Yes, that's what I did for the alloy defense, it said +24, but when I saw my ship defense, from 0 it only
went up to 16.1
