I heard from someone that on the STOked episode recorded today (due to be released on Tuesday), Chris interviewed somebody who confirmed that Facility 4028 is going to become a PvP map. I didn't see the episode, but that's what I heard.
I was definitely about to suggest this! It's pretty symmetric, which would make for a good assault or CTF type game. Maybe even add prisoners as an NPC hazard... Or you could do Klingons vs. Feds, where the Feds have to activate the Holo-guards, and the Klingons have to free prisoners. First team to X amount of NPCs active at once wins (at once to account for the other team killing (tagging for prisoners, I guess) your NPCs).
As far as queues, I've found that in the last week or two I've been getting many more games than usual (which is a good thing). Maybe it's F2Pers coming up, or just more people deciding to try it out, but I've been getting matches with reasonable consistency for 4-5 days of the week. The best part is, it's not the same 8 people every time!
If they are just thinking new versions of things we already have (arena, cap n hold, etc.), then what would be the point of a new space arena? Change of scenery?
The map makes more of a difference on the ground.
Having said that, the facility seems too big for a conventional PvP map; so maybe they're planning something new.
Anyway, there's nothing to say that that's the only map they want to convert; that asteroid map from the previous mission could be cool (even though it did make my PC's cooling fans struggle a bit).
For Arena I think it makes no difference, I agree. For Capture & Hold - it could mean a significant change of gameplay. But I haven'T seen any Space maps yet that would really work for that. Maybe the Shuttle mission map? But then only as Shuttle PvP map, I don't think anyone would manage to steer his Odysseus or Bortas into those Asteroids and capture the satellites or whatever we'd pick as CnH point.
Of course, the Facility 4028 is a well-made map and it would be sad if it was only used in one single mission!
Still, disappointing. Ground PvP, the least popular form of PvP, would have gotten its second map since launch, while Space PvP, most popular form of PvP still sits at "-1 game mode" (Space Assault was removed with Season 2).
It is entirely possible that they could be trying to build some interest in ground PvP with a new map. That being said, if Klinks only account for 18% of total players then why aren't they going gang busters on Klink only content to drum up support for that faction? Again I realize nothing is confirmed but it would seem pretty odd to me if after all this time the two PvP additions would be ground maps.
I'll just say that maps have absolutely nothing to do with my own disinterest in ground.
