Had this idea during a discussion on another board.

We all know the Sovereign is overdue for a refit.

Besides being in need of a visual overhaul to make it look more like what appeared on screen and a venturefied version as an alternate skin, it needs a special ability:

The First Contact signature 4x torpedo volley.

You can't do that atm because you lack a LC tac station.

So my suggestion would be to give the +1 a Quad Quantum launcher that would fire either standard quantum torpedos or a special quad salvo.

The salvo should not be the same as the High Yield version.

I imagine it to have a slightly longer cooldown than HY3 and a lower overall damage per torp. Additionally i'd like it to have a chance for a DoT proc.

Should probably not be compatible with standard BO HY and Torpedo Spread to not make it overpowered but should at least share a global cooldown with them.

Don't take me apart for missing any obvious obstacles in gameplay mechanics and balance issues.

This is a first draft idea and am sure can be tweaked to give the refit an interesting unique ability without pulling a lolconsole out of somebody's behind.

Thoughts?

Although I would love to see a +1 Sovy, It's your torpedo idea I'd like to comment on.

This is just my personal opinion, but I don't think that there should be ANY unique weapons on T4.5 or higher C-Store ships. They're alright for leveling lower tiers, but unless they're overpowered they'll usually need to be replaced almost immediately upon hitting VA to stay competitive.

It's like the quad phaser cannons, they're fun to have but I honestly don't know a single person that uses them at VA because MKXII dual heavies work better.

That's just my opinion.

A +1 Sovy on the other hand, I'd give my first unborn child for Personally, I think all the refit really needs is for the ensign Tac station to be bumped up to LT Tac station. Maybe some minor bonuses to shield, hull or some other stat... but it's so good right now I don't even think it's really necessary.

Well, if we get a +1, we all know it will be with that bit of extra ability. Most likely console. And if we do, i'd like it to be at least related to what we know the Sovereign can do. It's either a quad volley torp, scooping up stellar gas and blow it up in your enemies face or Fire at Will sweep to find cloaked ships.
I would prefer the torp. However you flavor it is a matter of debate, just make it not overpowered but unique.

Just a nitpick about the name; it should be a 'Rapid-Fire Quantum Launcher' or replace Rapid-Fire with Burst-Fire.
"Quad Quantum Launcher" sound so wrong.

its funny - you mentioned it as almost an afterthought, but I **LOVE** the idea of a Fire At Will sweep that reveals cloaked ships - I think that's totally awesome! Create a console that allows spread weapons fire (FAW, Torpedo spread and Cannon Salvo) to also temporarily reveal cloaked ships. but a decent cooldown on it, but after all, considering it only helps against cloaked ships, the utility is inherently limited. Or, alternatively, Target Weapons Impacts - a tactical buff that allows you to place a mark on ships that will stay even while cloaked, allowing allies to do limited damage to cloaked targets

that sounds like fun, and the first version, not terribly overpowered I think (the second one I can imagine some more significant abuse, but it also sounds like fun)

For the Sovereign refit, I agree that it at least needs a special console that gives it a more tactical edge...just to bring it back in line with the Galaxy Dreadnaughts or the Excelsior refit. Therefore the console or special power needs to be something that gives a greater offensive punch then it currently has. I also think that it should be a rapid-fire Quantum Torpedo turret.

This turret should be the torpedo version of the Phaser lance on the Dreadnaught. Long cool down but devastating when deployed. It should be an amped up HY3 or Torpedo Spread 3. Also this console should give a damage bonus to Quantum torpedoes in general.

I love the Sovereign as it is in terms of boff stations and would not like to sacrifice a LtCom Engineer slot for a LtCom Tac slot. It would be great if we can lose the Ensign Tac slot for a single LtCom Tac slot....but I don't think we will get both a LtCom Tac and Eng. It may make it too overpowered....but hoping.

At least a special power or console mentioned above should be a reasonable upgrade from current state.

How about an auxillery craft like a more combat orientated version of the captain's yacht?

Would I like a Sovreign refit, yes very much so. Will it happen, highly unlikely because we're getting 3 flavours of Oddesy.

Why not? Doesn't the Excelsior have this already? I see no reason why a +1 Sovy shouldn't be BETTER than a +1 Excelsior. None at all...

I use the Quad Phaser Cannons on my Main's Tac Escort Retrofit. I just wish we could equip more than one set of Quad Cannons at a time--would give me more of a Defiant-ish feel, even though I use a Sao Paulo skin.

than that will be definatly Overpowered and how does that help the sovy+1.
