Ah the Galaxy X Dreadnaught the so called combat engineers T5 (T6) ship of choice. combining the raw power of a fleet escort with the durability of a cruiser and with a cannon that melts faces.

So why when this is clearly established as one of the games heavy hitters (at least in the right hands) am i looking "back" at it?
well its this simple, with the addition of one little console this ship is going from lumbering gunship to what will most probably be one of the most desirable fleet escort / combat tanks / Raw DPS available on the c-store.

Thats not to say the dreddy does not have its significant flaws oh no far from it, for example:

- It turns like a bus
- the front firing arc is limited due to the turning rate
- you are limited to phasers if you want to truly buff your weapons systems
- T4 level Boff slots

But even with these limitations the ship is still desirable and can dominate as a "park and shoot" gunboat especially in STF's and with a reasonably skilled engineer in the captains chair she can tank very as effectively as any star cruiser.

But despite the cannons and the spinal phaser she is no fleet escort and can quite easily be swamped by smaller faster more heavily gunned ships that can stay out of here effective combat arc.

But here's a question, how the heck is the I.S.S. Stadi so darn powerful? and how can we match that raw power?

well the simple answer is this:

Hakishins Dreadnaught wont be to everyone's taste but think for a moment what this sort of build could do on a faster turning ship with effectively a MVA like the Prometheus and a shotgun (wide spread) version of the spinal Phaser covering your aft.

Does this ship still need another (or a higher level) tactical slot? yes

Will we be seeing much more of this ship as soon as it can separate? ooooh heck yes!

Will it be nerfed into the ground as soon as Engineers and Tactical officers learn to use the MVA mode?

yep....probably

so at the (relatively) low price of 2000 c-points who will be picking up the Dreadnought for future use despite the fact they will need to buy the separation console as well?

So why am i a little anxious? well think about this for a moment, this is a ship that up until this "modification" could already cloak, gear up using consoles for cruisers and escorts and with a saucer separation should be able to run rings around most enemy ships at escort speeds with cannons blazing while a shotgun version of its spinal lance rips clusters of fighters and smaller ships apart with ease.

personally i know that despite a long standing promise to myself that no further purchases would be made on the C-store i more than probably will be buying the separation module for my min-maxed combat Engineer to replace my fleet escort and simply ignoring my free Oddesy because i know the potential a GX has both in PVP and PVE as a gunboat.

So over to you lot, who will be snapping up the separating Galaxy X Gunship and for those who already have the ship and the modules ready may i ask :

- Will you be running it like a somewhat more expensive an less adaptable version of the USS Prometheus?

- Can the GX with the correct consoles match or beat the Prometheus's MVAM?

-I s it worth the c-points / Dylithium?

ok feel free to discuss

I already have the Dreadnought, so naturally I'm going to buy the console. Does anybody know how much it is?

Probably, yes.

The only problem I see with putting cannons on the dreadnought is being lumbered with them in cruiser mode.
It would be nice if it came with dual loadouts for each mode

you mean pre separation your using beams as your primary fore weapons (a beam boat for all intents) but when you seperate your loading up your cannons on the drive section only?

so beams would remain on your saucer while you load out guns on your drive...

....me gusta

never ever gonna happen but darned if i wouldn't use it to death if it was available

Since the Spinal Phaser Lance is apparently mounted on the saucer in the combined ship, I would like to see it being un-available while the saucer is separated. Doing that would bring it more in line with the regular T5 Galaxy.

an interview on Stoked specifically stated that during separation the spinal lance will act as a wide spread AoE variant with a minimal range

I have the X and the Exploration Refit and I think that it was stated that wed be able to take the separation console from the Refit and slot it on the X.

Im primarily a KDF only player; however, I cant wait to try out separation with the X.

My worry here is that the Galaxy R which is also a C-store ship people have paid for is going to go from "not quite up to scratch" which is already unacceptable to being totally obsolete as a result of this. Even the boff layout's less useful as the ensign is engineering, not science or tactical. The ship will, effectively, be reduced to nothing but a substandard cruiser with a transferable console better employed on another ship.

This will more than likely be the case for the Exploration Refit.

I tokened my Refit on my 1ST Fed Engineer and I can token it on my other Fed Engineer if its worth it.

The Bright side of this for Cryptic would be that most on the newer players will not have either the Exploration Refit or the Galaxy X and will need to buy both vessels from the C-Store if they want to get in on the separating X coolness.

see this is why im annoyed about the whole thing, yes i want my Galaxy X to gain the full benefit of saucer separation im just not sure i want to spend 1600c on a ship i wont use for anything but the console.

not i might add that cryptic will care but, it seems a heck of a lot for a minor(?) benefit
