Hey, all. Due to the sale, I plan on picking up one of these. Question is, though, which one?

I love the design of the Defiant from an aesthetic perspective, and I think the Prometheus was overhyped a little in its canon appearances. But I understand that the Prometheus is a solid ship in-game. However, I also don't know how effective the multi-vector assault mode is - particularly since I have the Ody, and while I find separating the ship useful, I also find that the chevron to be of questionable value, and the escort to not last terribly long. Also, I don't have much (re: any) experience with cloak - seems a bit difficult to use effectively, unless it's a battle cloak (not that I know the difference). I also don't know how tough the ships are in terms of punishment, nor which one can put out the best firepower. And ultimately I'm more concerned with performance than looks.

Long story short I'm trying to get the one that's the "best" for me. I'm getting used to piloting escorts, or will be when I pick it up. I'd like it to be able to take a bit of a beating, and my experience is primarily with engineering powers, but if it's better for overall endurance I'm willing to learn with science powers. My "play style" with escorts is nearly nonexistent, other than I'm new enough that when I tried with an Akira at T3 I had a very hard time bringing my cannons to bear on an opponent after the first pass. I'm mainly a cruiser pilot, with either the Assault Cruiser or Odyssey.

I've also heard something about people tending to pick up the free T5 escort and using the multi-vector console on THAT for a better effect. I'd rather not do that (looking for an account-wide ship here), but how often is that done?

Any thoughts anyone might have would be greatly appreciated.

Having used both Defiant-R and MVAM for quite some time, I favor the T5 Advanced Escort with an MVAM console (MVAE) for the following reasons:

1) The MVAE has a more robust bridge officer layout when compared to Defiants (that extra ensign science station is HUGE!)

2) Now that Field Generators stack and are science consoles instead of engineering, the MVAE can obtain higher total shield capacity since they run 3 sci console slots vs. the Defiant's 2.

3) The MVAE module ships move and turn much faster than Defiants when optimally spec'd and using hyper-impulse engines.

The Defiant is still a good ship, but it does have survival problems when facing a skilled opponent in an MVAE. If the Defiant's opening decloak alpha strike fails, then its chances of survival drop quickly as the fight drags on, especially when the opponent employs 30-sec CD tractor beams.

I'll still use a Defiant occasionally for nostalgia reasons, but if I'm going into a serious combat encounter, I'll take the MVAE instead.

First off, I'd like to thank you for replying. It's greatly appreciated.

Second, if I were to NOT get the Advanced Escort - it's either the Multi-Vector Assault Escort with its own console, or the Defiant-R - which one would you recommend that I get, and why?

I would rather not have to grind a ton of dilithium and/or buy the dilithium to pick up the Advanced Escort, so I'd like to hear your opinion on this, although I'm also considering what you said regarding the ship/console combination.

I'm a big fan of the Defiant refit, but I've only flown the MVAM on tribble.

The default MVAM still has a slight edge over the Defiant-R for reasons already stated above, though the Defiant-R will have a better offensive BO-layout, and therefore a slightly better chance in 1-1 PvP.

I prefer the Defiant-R over the MVAE. I think it is more personal preference really. The MVAE can last a little longer in a fight then the Defiant-R, but I can tell you that I have been called an exploiter cause I can tank so well in my Defiant. Since they can't understand how I do it, they just say I am exploiting. I have learned to fly my ship class very effectively. I tried out the MVAE, and didn't really care for it all that much.

I think it really comes down to this: If you plan on PvP, then I would choose the Defiant, as it is a little more offensive, and the quicker that you can kill your enemy, the more likely you will survive. If you plan on PvE, I would chose the MVAE, as you can have HE, PH, and ST. With those three science powers, you will be ready for anything that PvE will through at you.Chain ST with TT, and you will be good to go.

Iíd like to know what Iíd need to do to tank a bit better in my Defiant Refit.

My problem with my Defiant is that Iím taking some pretty hard hits and Iím only packing TSS2 and ASIF1 and they sometimes they just donít seem like enough.

My Defiant setup is here

To OP:

I have both the Defiant Refit and the MVAE and I just canít stop using my Defiant Refit.

I like the MVAE but for some reason I never found myself wanting to use its special in PVP or PVE.

The MVAE has a very good BO setup for tanking but like has already been said the Defiant packs a better offensive punch.

Since the all of the adjustments that have been made to Science skills things like TR and GW are not quite has useful has they once were IMO.

The MVAE can use TSS3 or HE3 or MES3 and thatís nothing to sneeze at.

Hah Classic. That LC Science slot make a perfect Gravity well button btw. Great for holding a group of borg probes still while you just unload the massive guns this MVAM Escort gets. Seriously with a tactical officer in the thing, you can get the cannons to reach an unbelievable 3k DPS! Of course the extra turn rates are even better for guard duty in the STF's like Cure Space and Khitomer Accord.

Oh need to mention this, Don't even bother with the Polarize hull when you can Attack Pattern Omega which does the same and more. LC tac slot instead of a limited science slot.

Defiant is great if you want to run cannons with either torps or a dual beam bank since you need the extra tac slots.

If you run all 4 cannons and 3 turrents the Advanced with the MVAM console is great because it has the perfect number of tac slots, you can run a hazard emitter, TSS, and a tractor beam.

The console adds a lot since you can turn sooooo much better, even with the oddy, the point of separating isn't to have the extra damage of the pets, its to increase your turn rate. With a 4 cannon build turn rate is real important. Go wit the Beta section, and when that isn't up use the Alpha part that boosts shields and aux.
