# 1 Idea for more inventory space
04-16-2012, 05:06 AM
Hi everyone,

I had a thought on giving more inventory space to STO users as like me I know others have issues with needing more space!

I have heard that one of the issues is that everything you have goes with you where ever you go and is used in all sorts of calculations, database calls etc... so what about storage areas that are independent?

My idea would be to have a location like ESD where you go to a door (maybe the lower level of ESD) or a turbolift and map move to say a cargo bay.
This location gives you access to additional space like the fleet space area where you have tabbed storage (again like Fleet banks).

This storage would only be accessible at this area, nothing in it can be used in any other part of the game.
So it would not be able to store unique items.

The first tab could be a shared storage area for all toons on an account that could also allow storage and sharing of EC, Dilithium and even GPL. This first tab would not allow bound items due to the sharing nature between accounts.

This idea could even be extended to other social zones like K7 and DS9 where people have storage just in those locations.

Each storage location could be purchasable via C-Store (some can be given as a veteran award) and tabs and slots could be purchasable via EC, Dilithium and/or GPL.

You could also allow a manifesto view from a console on people ships.

This idea would allow users more space without the overhead in-game whilst provide something to be purchasable via the C-Store and/or available via veteran awards and something that can be purchased using the in-game currencies.

So, what are the thoughts of other STO users?
Cryptic, could this be done?

Happy Trekking everyone.

# 2 Tribbles!

On a side note!: I think that tribbles should be able to breed (be eaten if there is a cannable tribble) on a tab basis....

So if tab 1 you have tribbles and food, tribbles could eat food on that tab only
Tab 2 has food and drinks does not get touched by tribbles in tab 1.

Calculations on breeding/eating could be done when map loads with all the data or could be a cron job that does something on the table(s) for these storage areas (guessing here as not sure on how database works for STO!).

No matter where your stuff is stored, it takes up space in the database. And the problem with having more inventory options is already solved... in the c-store.

From what I've read it is not the amount stored in the database that is the issue with increasing our inventory further, but the amount of "active" items in them that gets used when playing.

For example you are doing a Borg Space Elite STF and you have get damage - you are able to use minor. major and critical components that are not only in your inventory tray but in your bank.

This idea is about having these slots available to use that are that are excluded from general game play would mean more items you can store without adding lag to the game play.

I (and others!) have already maxed out on bank and inventory slots available from the C-Store.
With the introduction of all the new space and ground sets available through STFs and all the new lock boxes there are more things going in to your inventory and bank.

These storage areas would be great for keeping additional assets you have for when you want to add new BOFFs, DOFFs, Ships as you could store the stuff you like but do not want to use in these storage area until you need them. at the moment they sit in your bank with all the other crafting items and consumables that you may need for crafting and DOFF missions.

I think it's a good idea.

So I can buy a crate in a cargo bay somewhere in a federation base... Say a crate can hold 15 additional items excluding bound items and I can see all my crates in a cargo bay in one place in a tab / fleetbank like interface. Something like this... http://dl.dropbox.com/u/33185684/Naamloos4.png

I'd prefer they took a look at LOTRO's "Wallet". It's a cash shop account unlock that puts all the tokens, medallions, etc. that you get from events, zones, etc. into a page with just the name and how many you have.

For STO they should just add a Cargo Bay tab to Inventory where it can keep track of all the provisions, data samples, lobi (?) crystals, etc. which would free up a lot of space, and they can c-store charge for the account unlock to pay for the programming.

I have purchase all the extra inventory slots available, and its not enough.
I would be happy to buy more slots, and perhaps this needs to be tied into the Veteran Accolade system?

This will increase a single character's inventory slots by twelve (12).
Note: This option may be unlocked up to three (3) times per character.

Personal
Pets/fly-by ship pets.

Personally, I think I would like to be able to name the tabs myself instead of having them specified - like we currently have with the Fleet banks. I think this would allow us more flexibility.

I think that having specified tabs would also add complexity to the system as instead of just disallowing unique items each time you put something into a tab the system would have to check that each of your items is allowed in that particular tab.

Hopefully some Devs will post a reply with their thoughts and insights.

One line does not solve the problem, 4 lines max does no solve the problem you can fill these slots up really fast. The OP's original idea of tabbed pages like the fleet bank is a very good idea and I would happily pay for a system like this.
