I'm really hopeful that I'm seeing a trend in how sets will be done from now on, and wanted to see if others think this is just my imagination or a real thing.
Previously, 2-piece sets were the rule. 2 piece borg/2 Omega/2 Maco/2 Aegis, etc.... There really hasn't been any point in getting a full set because the bonuses were not set up correctly. With just 2 pieces, you got a passive; the last piece of the set just tossed a situational "dps-y" science ability on top.
But look at the new sets released in the last two months:
- The Odyssey set, you must use all of the pieces for the passive, and there is no situational add-on.
- The Ferengi set's 20% EC discount for a 2 piece is situational for high-level players, while the commendation XP is useful for much longer in your captain's career.
- The Reman set gives you a damage boost with just 2 pieces, reserving the passive for 3 pieces.
Am I crazy, or does anyone else see a trend toward giving players a reason to round out their sets from now on? Admittedly, the Jem'Hadar set is the monkey wrench in my theory - it still follows the 2 piece passive, 3 piece science ability, and was released recently - but I really hope that I am right.
The Bort's set is not up on the wiki, so I can't check my theory against its set bonuses, but I'm sure someone around here can weigh in on that.
