A bug that involved Romulan Liberated Borg captains and their skills once they chose an ally
I was wondering which option in the menu controls the visual effects? I've only really noticed it in space, but a lot of visual effects fade in and out of existence for me. For example, pretty much every time Gravity Well is used, it appears on my screen for a few seconds, then I no longer see it for a few seconds, then it comes back again. Other abilities do the same thing: Eject Warp Plasma, Vent Theta Radiation, Power Siphon, and more. I also noticed this happens a lot with ship debris, particularly Borg Transformers and Gates in STFs.
The abilities, themselves, always appear to have their active effects, it's just half the time I can't see them. This is particularly irksome when I'm gaming with a friend whose loadout compliments mine, and I use an ability while his is still in effect since it looks like it ended. My friend also has the same issue in regard to phasing visual effects.
My computer is pretty top of the line, and the game runs flawlessly other than this visual glitch. All settings are set to high with the exception of Bloom, which is set to low. If it helps, here are my specs:
Intel i5-2500k @4.2Ghz, 16 GB 1600 RAM, GTX580Ti, Vista 64-bit.
I've been asking around in various Zone channels since I posted this, and it seems many other people have the same problem. Most everyone said they just chalk it up to it being a cheap MMO and aren't bothered by it. I, however, am a videophile and cannot accept that.
There has to be something causing this if it's not an option in the settings. Does the game not play well with GTX series GPUs? Does it not like DX11? Come on, devs, you know the answer...
Yep since a patch or two the effects from weapons and abilities and even models of say the gates in stfs just blink or just dissapear. Duno what they have done but i hope they fix it. Cant blame us, top comps and latest drivers etc. Was working fine before.
Having this issue too, particularly noticeable with Gravity Wells, but also Quantum Torpedoes sometimes appear almost invisible (it looks like just the light 'halo' around them but no actual torpedo); repulsor/tractor beams sometimes don't show (leading to some amusing wtf am I/am I not moving moments...).
These are the main ones, there may be more less noticeable (like the big purple patch on the Mirror Event, also vanishes from time to time). It seems panning the camera about randomly usually causes things to reappear (sometimes briefly).
Running a shiny new AMD/Radeon crossfired system with plenty of memory so that's not the issue. Amusingly my old P4 with an even older AGP card didn't seem to have any trouble (other than about 12fps most of the time...)
Be nice to see a fix for this, again it seems it started with S6, but I'm not sure. Maybe something to do with the changes to the Bloom?
Seriously, just get rid of the big glowy white clouds! And give me my Grav wells back.
