# 1 BOFF Slot
05-20-2012, 01:11 PM
Ok, I understand now tht the Devs don't want to give us a Captan Boff slot for our first officer, no matter how much we cry for it. I also uderstand that they will not give us a commander slot of our choice. I propose this: how about throw us a bone and give us on extra slot that we can buy from C-store. The slot should be bound to one character, one ship, and one per ship, so the player have to buy more slots to add other characters and ships as he/she chooses. The slot should only add to the BOFF powers that are less than Commander. For example, if you are in a Science ship and want to boost up your tactical ability to LT Comander, he could do so, or If you are a Tac Captain in a Cruiser and want to add to your tacitcs officer ability to LT Com. Just give us one slot we could buy we copuld add on an existing Lt or En slot, besides you could make alot of money off of it.

Any comments?

I'm certain a purchasable bridge seat would sell but it would be the nail gun that would rapidfire this coffin into the ground. All the ships(in spite of complaints to the contrary) are meant to "fit" and compete against one another. Introducing that great a wildcard into the mix would be a disaster.

If there were an action that has the potential to generate more volume of negative "pay to win" shenanigans outcry I can't imagine it. If I were involved in game design/development and this proposal were remotely attractive it would only be because I intended to kill the entire project within a couple weeks and was looking for quick cash to move onto greener pastures. The debacle would likely make gameplay unsalvageable even if there was a remote hope of retaining the goodwill of the player base.

You are stepping all over your own words. "Every type of ship could have it." It would level the playing field for eveybody. The almighty DPS wouldn't get all the kills. Science ships could heal better or fight without having to hope for the ultra fast escort to get stuck in its fireworks show, cruisers can go toe to toe with escorts, and escorst can boost what ever they are lacking. How is that a disaster? You feel threatened by leveling the playing field for everybody?

I don't think I've stepped all over my own words at all. If I had cited a specific ship that would become disadvantaged relative to the others I think that you would be correct. Combinations of consoles/bridge slots/device slots all balance ships across the three officer classes but they also balance internally against ships of the same respective classes in seperate tiers.

The interelationships between all of these values are complex and delicate. An open slot as I stated before would be a disaster.

The strangest thing about your comment is that seem to be attaching a pro escort agenda to it. If the "equal playing field" allowed everyone to benefit the same escorts you imply I support would gain just as much as the ships you feel need this adjustment in order to keep up. You won't keep up if the leader gains the same boost.

Your suggestion that this addition would allow all ships to compensate for their inherent weaknesses is probably the best illustration of flawed design. If every ship can do it all what a muddied unremarkable piece of drock gameplay would become. Why even bother having classes of ships?

Threatened? Not for the reasons you might think. I play casually so I'm not concerned about Mk 12, DPS or PvP numbers. I like my weak builds and silly costumes for my ships and my toons. I am concerned what a decision like these would mean for the long term viability of the game as a whole. Where else would I go to "wear" this stuff?

Alright, I see your point about trying to bring up ships against the escort. I was just saying to be fair to escort players so I didn't hear them crying. I am not pro escort, in fact the opposite. I am a Galaxy X owner and I would like to enjoy the same RCF II as escorts can. Escorts already get Commander level Tac BOFFs. Can't they at least give me a slot to give me LT Commander Tac BOFF? They best way to do that to keep more people happy by giving them the option to add a slot where they feel they need it. I need for Tac section, you or someone else may need it in another spot. Would you be happy to add something to your ship to make it better? If you want to keep your ship default then thats your choice. I am about freedom of thought and ideas. Its like my car, I was not satisfied with it at stock capability, so I had it upgraded to a street legal, track worthy racing machine. Now its the most wanted car in town. I treat everything I own like this. Customizing in a game is never a threat to the game. It makes the game more attractive. Hacking and code cracking to make ships better are threats to the game. Don't critize me because I want to enjoy the whole game and not just some small photo op part of the game.

Thats what these forums are for so if the Devs like my idea, they would tweak it and it might come out 3 or 4 patches from now.
